Why did we make this plushie?
We set out to create a huggable plushie that can:
1) Help us to cling to Jesus in their time of need.
2) Help us to be closer to Jesus.
3) Facilitate the experience of receiving God's infinite love and mercy.
4) Help us to better reflect on loving God and our neighbours, as we hold and look at Him.
3) Make talking to Jesus easier.
4) Help children to see Church differently.
5) Help parents to talk about Jesus with their kids at an earlier age (Pray and play).
Short Summary of the Sacred Heart
In 1672, Christ appeared to a French visitation nun, St. Margaret Mary Alacoque. He asked that His heart, wounded on the cross and continually wounded by the ingratitude of men for his sacrifice for them, be venerated and adored as an embodiment of His Divine mercy and love.
The Solemnity of the Sacred Heart was officially added to the liturgical calendar In 1856, and this devotion remains one of the most popular in the Church today.
Jesus, meek and humble of heart, make my heart like Yours. Amen!
A more detailed exploration of the Sacred Heart will be coming up in the next post. Stay tuned! 😊
How It Came to Fruition
The project timeline was drawn when the group discernment was to proceed with this little venture.
We searched high and low for a suitable Catholic illustrator locally, whose fees and design style made it feasible to create this toy. But it was not to be, we then turned our hunt internationally. We ploughed through Google searches and online spaces where artists display their creations.
Finally, the alleluia moment came. By God's grace, a Vietnamese illustrator checked off all our boxes. It has truly been an absolute delight collaborating with him.
With some artwork at hand, we started looking for a plushie manufacturer. Due to prudence, we could only begin with a small quantity. As a result, many companies were simply not interested in working with us.
It also didn't help that there was the ongoing Covid pandemic. So, it was impossible to travel to neighbouring Asian countries for a sourcing trip.
Through our contacts, we managed to submit the artwork to the factory to produce a plushie sample. Due to frequent lockdowns in China (in their efforts to achieve zero-covid), this process took a very long time. It was also not easy to explain over text and video regarding how we envisioned it to be.
After many rounds of improvements, we have reached the mass production stage! We paid our deposit to our supplier, and the wait resumes... With delays at every stage of the project timeline, the only thing that got us through was prayer and trust in the Lord. Trusting that everything will eventually fall into place, just as He wills it so.
At this point in time, an entire year has gone by.
It was in November 2021 that we received our first shipment. Since Christmas was near at hand, it was a mad rush to:
- prepare the website and test it for user-friendliness
- craft all the copywriting required
- take and edit pictures
- set up the administrative and operational processes
- find storage for all the plushies
- quality check all the plushies received
- churn out social media ads to raise brand awareness
Was it exasperating? YES.
Was it scary to risk so much? YES.
Was our faith and love of neighbour being put to the test? YES.
Well, in the end, our love for Jesus and our love for you triumphed over the many many obstacles that cropped up.
See you in the next post.
Jesus loves you!
