Chinese or Lunar New Year is a time for families to be reunited to be as one cohesive family unit. Before we start our feast, let us invite Christ to be with us by beginning with a prayer.
Opening Prayer
Holy Father, we gather here as a family and humbly stand before You in thanksgiving for your loving care and the graces we received in the past year. We offer our prayers and praises to You. May You bless our family, and guide us to live fully, joyfully and faithfully in service to You. We make this prayer in the name of Jesus. Amen.
- Leader: Our loving Father, thank You for the graces you have given us in the past year, and enabling our whole family to gather here in peace today. We praise You and we thank You.
Response: God the Father, we praise you forever.
- Leader: We praise You and we thank You, Father, for given us your begotten son, Jesus Christ as the way to lead us to heaven. We acknowledge that in the past, we have failed to perform our duty diligently as Christians. Therefore at this moment, we solemnly ask You to forgive us.
Response: Lord, have mercy on us.
- Leader: We praise You and we thank you Lord, for You have blessed us with a family, so that we can love one another and live harmoniously and peacefully in this journey of life. Please forgive us when we failed to love, causing damage to harmony and tranquility in the family.
Response: Lord, please forgive us.
4. Leader: We thank You Lord, for You
have blessed us this day to gather and reunite as a family. We also remember
those broken families and homeless people. Lord, show them your mercy so
that they may receive the help and charity from others. May their hearts
be filled with your peace and joy.
Response: Lord, graciously hear us.
Concluding Prayer
Almighty and merciful God, we thank You for all your graces and protection in the past one year, as well as your blessing for having us together here as family. Teach us to cherish this beautiful moment of reunion, and to be in communion with one another in loving harmony. As the old year ends and new year begins, we ask for your help to get rid off all our vices and bad habits, so as to be renewed in this new year. We pray this in the name of Jesus. Amen.
